Discover the 6 key themes behind Farnborough International Space Show,
each one represents a key area of the global space industry.
COMMERCIAL SPACE
The goal of commercial space is to develop a sustainable and profitable space transportation industry, enabling private companies to provide access and investment to space for passengers, cargo, and scientific research while reducing costs, fostering innovation, and expanding humanity's presence beyond earth.
OPERATIONS & MANUFACTURING
The goal of operations and manufacturing in space is to establish efficient, sustainable, and autonomous production processes beyond Earth, enabling the manufacturing of applications, materials, and infrastructure in space that are difficult or impossible to create on Earth.
SUSTAINABILITY IN SPACE
Space sustainability seeks to create equitable access and the use of the environment of space to meet the needs of society without compromising the needs of future generations. This principally focuses on Space Domain Resilience (SDR), Space Domain Awareness (SDA), space debris, emissions from launches and developing regulation to meet evolving demand, all of which hinges on the success of international cooperation and formal agreements.
SECURITY & DEFENCE
The strategic goal of security and defence is to protect critical space-based infrastructure, such as satellites and communication systems from potential threats. It’s critical we ensure the peaceful use of outer space, deter hostile activities, and safeguard national security interests by developing advanced defence technologies, space domain awareness, and international cooperation to prevent the militarisation of space and maintain global stability.
SPACE EXPLORATION
The primary aim of space exploration is to advance our understanding of the universe by investigating celestial bodies and uncovering the origins of the solar system. Furthermore, searching for potential signs of life beyond Earth, using data and developing technologies that enable human and robotic missions to explore deep space. This ultimately paves the way for future human settlement and resource utilisation in space.
EARTH OBSERVATION
Focusing on the integration of scientific and technological disciplines through Earth observation and remote sensing to promote sustainability, drive sector advancements and accelerate new technologies. This is critical to helping us to understand our changing climate, manage our natural resources, and prepare and respond to natural hazards.
